The implied profundity here is a bit tongue –in-cheek. The idea to dabble in mystery (while certainly engaging) is only about half of why I pursue this theme. I’d begun to use the term ‘magic dot’ in class as a way to spice up the humble dot shape as a design option. In my own work using a dot (and/or square shape) always seemed to fit into most compositions as if by magic. Not wanting to leave the rectangle out of the fun I devised to surround it in obscurity by dubbing it ‘ mystic’. Out of this playful exaggeration (and serious afterthoughts) came the idea for the series. The mystic cube has become part of my regular image cycle. It too is a natural fit for my print methods and a motif I find irresistible.
