The Artist  News...  Aloha from my tropical outpost. Much has been said about the Hawaiian isles and there is little I can add except to report that, seeing is believing.

Silkscreen Artist, Illustrator, Teacher and Adventurer... Currently based in Hana on Maui but anything can happen...

Artist up date.... shifting patterns on the landscape have landed me in California for the past 3 months, not a bad result CA. always been my second or third home, lots of friends, old memories, good winter weather and slowed down pace ( except compared to Hana), not NYC that's what I meant...since I got here my paddle board obsession has been replaced with my returning to the sport of my youth, Fencing, and I have had the luck to both teach and do battle on the strip....lot's of fun, a huge physical adjustment especially since I hurt my left hand and had to fence righty, but it's actually been a great switch and again I learn more and more as I allow for change to take place....Art wise my drawings for John Kixmiller's epic adventure series 'The Protectors of the Wood' have been steadily improving and we are onto book 4 I believe....also just got a studio space in the 'Sawtooth' bldg. in West Berkeley thanks to old circus friend and quilter extraordinaire, Sue Fox (textiledreamstudio.com), and I'm making prints again and trying to sew up some products for sale so look out for tablecloths and bags to be in the mix....not sure where I'll be next as my boat continues to float about at the whim of the prevailing current while I keep trying to fix the rudder....

June 14th 2018....so if you follow this here is the latest.... California is behind me, I left on a great note. I had an open studio event at the Sawtooth studio just to show the work I'd done in the 2 months of occupancy which amounted to a considerable 15 new works. The turn out and response was more than expected and I sold a bunch of bags and tablecloths, which I've had to delete from the 'Handmade" page and hope to add more as I make them. Xmas is coming people so better buy yours now !!!
Back in the big apple, June is 'doctor month' as I'm trying to take care of biz before heading to Gloster Mississippi for year 5 of bringing awesome arts programs to youth in rural Miss. with a cast of artists I love dearly and have learned so much from working with over the years. And who would figure but I've also managed to secure another exhibition at the Broadway Housing Gallery in upper Harlem for the months of Sept. and Oct. So back east and busy as can be, sure do miss the Hawaii slow speed but for now I'm taking advantage of every opportunity .... you can be sure when I get back from Miss. I'll hit the ground running and put this show together which will be a lot of my Hana series and the show will be a sort of Hawaii meets NYC through a native son so to speak or something like that. I do'n't have it all figured out but much gratitude that I still have a presence and audience in NYC to show my work to...amazing how things keep turning over and revealing fresh moves to make...I'm not a person attracted to routine or security and while it makes me panic sometimes there are other moments well  worth taking the risk of standing on the edge of the unknown and letting go of presumption that you can control anything....hah!...
